The Korea Institute of Public Finance held a seminar on the 4th to discuss South Korea's economic growth potential and social policy responses to demographic changes. The event, which combined online and offline participation, aimed to establish policy directions for the next 30 years of cooperation with the OECD.

To mark the 30th anniversary of South Korea joining the OECD, a forum was organized to explore the sustainable growth of the Korean economy and future policy directions.

The 'Seminar Commemorating the 30th Anniversary of OECD Membership,' held by the Korea Institute of Public Finance on the 4th, was conducted both online and offline. The event aimed to reflect on the achievements of cooperation between South Korea and the OECD over the past 30 years and to discuss the challenges facing South Korea amidst a rapidly changing global economic environment.

From Expanding Growth Potential to Demographic Changes: Extensive Policy Discussions

Under the theme '30 Years of Accompanying the OECD and a New Future,' the seminar addressed key agendas for the qualitative growth of the Korean economy. The scope of discussion was set broadly, moving beyond simple economic indicators to include industrial and technological innovation, social policies following demographic changes, and inclusive growth to improve the quality of life for citizens.

Announcer Kim Ri-eon, who moderated the event, stated in the opening remarks that "over the past 30 years, South Korea and the OECD have grown together by sharing policy experiences and knowledge based on close cooperation." She added that the seminar would serve as a meaningful time to draw the direction for cooperation over the next 30 years based on past achievements.

Seeking South Korea's Policy Direction in Response to Global Economic Changes

Experts from the OECD and domestic and international specialists participating in the seminar engaged in in-depth discussions on how to expand the growth potential of the Korean economy and how to respond to rapidly changing industrial structures. In particular, the social policy direction South Korea should take amidst the massive trend of demographic changes was treated as a major issue.

Through this event, the Korea Institute of Public Finance intended to re-examine the cooperation model between South Korea and the OECD and provide an opportunity to strengthen policy responsiveness to changes in the global economic environment. The main discussions from the seminar are expected to be utilized as important foundational data for establishing South Korea's future economic policies and strengthening cooperation with the OECD.
