"Deokpyeong over Seoul Meeting Plaza"... Park Myeong-su tastes the difference in beef soup at highway rest areas

In celebration of the Chuseok holiday, a journey to find the representative menus of highway rest areas has been revealed. Starting with the Seoul Meeting Plaza Rest Area, the cast visited the Deokpyeong Nature Rest Area and the Chungju Rest Area in order, tasting the unique foods of each rest area.

Dongpo Pork Rice Bowl and Beef Soup, the Two Faces of Seoul Meeting Plaza Rest Area

At the first destination, the Seoul Meeting Plaza Rest Area, the Dongpo Pork Rice Bowl, which won an excellence award at the 'Rest Area Food Festa,' and the representative menu of this location, Maljukgeori Beef Soup, were introduced. The Dongpo Pork Rice Bowl is a menu item accompanied by bok choy and pork, receiving reviews that the meat quality is good and there is no smell from the pork. However, there were observations that it did not reach the quality of Dongpo pork eaten as a proper dish and felt somewhat like Jangjorim (braised beef). Opinions were also added that it is at an appropriate level for the price of 10,000 won.

The Maljukgeori Beef Soup served alongside it is a menu that contains the tradition of the rest area, which opened along with the 1988 Olympics. Regarding the taste of the broth, while it was noted that the traditional home-cooked feeling might be somewhat weak, opinions suggested it is suitable for a warm bowl as the ingredients, such as vegetables and meat, are good. In particular, both menus were provided with Dongchimi (water kimchi), and in the video, the taste of the Dongchimi was emphasized as being artistic and excellent.

"The broth tastes richer"... The twist of the Blue Ribbon-winning Deokpyeong Nature Rest Area

At the second destination, Deokpyeong Nature Rest Area, the beef soup that received a Blue Ribbon appeared as a menu item. The regular menu is offered at 10,000 won, and the special menu at 13,000 won. Compared to the beef soup at the previously visited Seoul Meeting Plaza Rest Area, a specific comparison was made that the broth at Deokpyeong is richer and feels more sincere. In the video, along with the evaluation that Deokpyeong's beef soup is more delicious than Seoul Meeting Plaza's, the reason given was the broth taste, which felt as if it were freshly boiled rather than a meal kit.

Deokpyeong Nature Rest Area showed characteristics where leisurely walks are possible within the rest area due to its large grounds, parks, reservoirs, walking trails, and pet parks. Additionally, snacks such as red bean bread and mugwort bread sold at the bakery within the rest area were mentioned, and food items such as walnut cookies made with rice were introduced. The cast mentioned that thanks to the spacious area of Deokpyeong, they could receive food quickly and spend leisurely time.

Chungju Rest Area's Apple Tonkatsu and Mukbap, the conclusion of the final journey

At the final destination, Chungju Rest Area, menus utilizing the local specialty apple were introduced. The apple handmade Tonkatsu and Lee Jeong-dong Mukbap, which are considered representative menus of Chungju Rest Area, appeared in turn. The cast continued the final meal of the rest area tour through these menus that contain the characteristics of the Chungju region.

During this tour process, the cast's reminiscences of the past also continued. Memories of the days when highways were not as congested as they are now, memories of traveling by train, and episodes experienced on the highway were shared through conversation. In particular, stories such as the experience of having to go up a mountain to relieve oneself when the highway was congested in the past, or the days when people ran frantically to catch a train, were exchanged.
