The landscape of the consumer goods market in Latin America is changing rapidly. The Brazilian cosmetics industry has opened an era of $1 billion in exports for the first time in history, and in Chile, the "Sober Curious" culture, which emphasizes health and avoids alcohol, is spreading and changing the paradigm of the beverage market. In places such as Argentina and Paraguay, local demand for Korean consumer goods is manifesting as practical business opportunities.

Brazil's Cosmetic Exports Surpass $1 Billion... Attention Must Be Paid to Changes in the Regulatory Environment

Brazil is growing its export scale as it emerges as a global market for the consumption of cosmetics, personal hygiene, and perfumes. According to the KOTRA São Paulo trade office, the export value of Brazil's cosmetics, personal hygiene, and perfume industry exceeded $1 billion for the first time in history in 2025. Local companies are leading market growth by strengthening competitiveness in various fields such as perfumes and hair care.

Opportunities for Korean companies are also expanding. As of August this year, the scale of Korean cosmetics exported to Brazil was $66 million, nearly doubling compared to the same period last year. However, to enter the Brazilian market, one must thoroughly understand the regulations of ANVISA. While general products can enter through mere notification, specific functional products such as sunscreens must undergo formal registration procedures to prove stability and efficacy.

In particular, in 2026, the list of ingredients that cannot be used in products and restricted ingredients has been newly reorganized. Companies aiming to enter the local market must check not only the registration methods for each product but also the latest ingredient labeling standards in advance.

Spread of 'Sober Curious' in Chile... Rapid Growth of Non-alcoholic and Low-alcohol Beverage Market

In Chile, the "Sober Curious" culture, where people completely quit alcohol or control their drinking amounts to enjoy only the taste and atmosphere of beverages, is becoming established. According to the WHO, Chile's per capita alcohol consumption has decreased by about 30% over the past 10 years. In response to this change, the local beverage market is trending toward being restructured around non-alcoholic (NoLo) and mocktails.

Local companies are elevating non-alcoholic beverages from simple substitutes to a premium experience. The Chilean startup Club Real launched a non-alcoholic Pisco Sour in July this year, with the entire production process conducted locally in Chile, to target the market. Traditional wineries are introducing non-alcoholic and low-alcohol sparkling wines, and beer companies are also expanding the taste and lineup of non-alcoholic products. In the mocktail market, differentiation strategies using local ingredients such as Boldo or Chilean fruits are appearing.

K-Consumer Goods Craze Confirmed in Argentina and Paraguay and Localized Challenges

In Argentina and Paraguay, scenes confirming high interest in Korean consumer goods continued. Approximately 130,000 visitors flocked to the 'K-Consumer Goods Pop-up Store' held at the Abasto Shopping in Buenos Aires, Argentina, last August. In this event, which included the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea International Trade Association, local buyers expressed interest in Korean culture by directly experiencing Korean food and cosmetics.

The possibility of K-Food and K-Beauty entering Paraguay was also confirmed. At 'EXPO CAPASU 2026', held at COMEXPO, the largest exhibition center in Paraguay, until September 11, a Korean pavilion was operated and drew attention from local distribution industry officials. At the scene, snack items such as shrimp-flavored and onion-flavored crackers and low-alcohol soju were popular, and demonstrations of low-irritant basic cosmetics were actively conducted.

What is noteworthy is that beyond simple product sales, the possibility of collaboration with local companies is appearing. A food distribution official in Paraguay expressed interest in developing localized items using Korean products. The KOTRA Asunción trade office advised that as local demand increases, it is necessary to have a strategy of thoroughly understanding product licensing and registration procedures and securing influential local partners.
